President Bush changed his election-year focus from national security to the economy yesterday, saying that a vote for Democrats in the upcoming Nov. 7 election is a vote for higher taxes. Appearing at a Republican fundraiser, Bush said the way voters cast their ballots will have a direct impact on their pocketbooks. Democrats denied the charge, saying their party has a long history of supporting targeted tax relief for middle-income families. (AP)
