President Bush invited newly empowered Democratic congressional leaders to lunch yesterday, stressing the importance of working with them to address the problems facing the nation. In previous years, Democratic majorities in Congress have worked with Republican presidents to pass important initiatives such as the Interstate highway system and Clean Air Act. But many experts say that Democrats and Republicans are too polarized to work together now, despite the initial overtures of good will. (AP)
