Democratic voters angry over the war in Iraq handed incumbent Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) a defeat in his Senate primary election on Tuesday night. The result represented both an opportunity and challenge for Democratic congressional candidates nationally heading into mid-term elections this fall. Some Republican leaders derided the Lieberman defeat, saying that it represented that the Democratic Party cannot be trusted with national security and defense issues. (AP)
